Position Description: Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry

The Histochemical Society (HCS) invites applications and nominations for the position of Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry, the official journal of the Society. The Editor-in-Chief is appointed by the HCS Council and serves as the journal’s chief scientific and editorial leader.

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of scientific rigor, integrity, and relevance in the journal’s content. Working closely with the publisher, editorial board, and HCS leadership, the EIC ensures that Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry continues to serve as a leading platform for innovative research and scholarly communication in the field.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and editorial leadership for Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry, ensuring scientific excellence and alignment with the mission and values of the Histochemical Society.
  • Oversee the peer-review process and editorial workflow to maintain timely, fair, and ethical publication practices.
  • Recruit, mentor, and collaborate with an active and diverse editorial board.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the journal’s visibility, impact, and engagement within the scientific community.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between HCS, the publisher, and the editorial board.
  • Represent the journal at scientific meetings and through professional networks.
  • Report regularly to the HCS Council on journal performance, editorial activities, and strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  • Established record of excellence in research relevant to the scope of Journal of Histochemistry & Cytochemistry.
  • Prior editorial and peer-review experience demonstrating sound judgment and commitment to scientific integrity.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the journal’s content and editorial operations.

The Editor-in-Chief receives an annual stipend for their service.
